For me, being minimal is usually the best way to dress. I wear very minimal jewelries and do not wear many different colours. But since living in India for a while, my mind is going wild with colours and all these hardcore jewelries that Indians wear plus, those piercings that they have are playing with my mind. The way Indians dress is very humble yet very sexy. I rarely see girls wearing short skirts or short shorts. Basically, something very revealing or exposing much of a skin gets avoided. But, there is something very secretive and beautiful about the way they dress with their traditional clothes which they usually are.
They hide their legs with long skirt but they show their mid riff. They hide their decolletage but they show their back. And all these colours, prints and jewelries are extravagant..... It seems that the idea of "more is better" best serves here. Surprisingly, in my world of "less is better", the idea of "more is better" coming so well.
In the developing countries, new generations can easily be influenced by other cultures and some aspects of the culture turns into homogeneous culture. However, Indians are colonised and called as Dutch India (1605-1825), Danish India (1620-1869), French India (1769-1954) and British India (1858-1947) in their history, it seems that they kept their culture very strong and stayed authentic in their own skin. The girls in the photos were so graceful and confident in their traditional clothes as if asking would you dare changing me. So, I admire this specific quality of Indians. I hope that this unique culture stays strong for the next generations, so that they can see what I saw today.
In my mind, the image of Indian girl will come with their dramatic eyeliner, very colourful Sarees or Kurtas with prints on them and the bangles which tchin- tchins every time they move.
